JOHN MAYALL/THE BLUES ALONE ACL 1243 UK MONO

This is blues man Mayall doing a record almost by himself. All songs are self-penned, he sings and play all instruments (bar drums on eight tracks provided by Keef Hartley), and stands as producer together with Mike Vernon. Very true to blues roots and the old masters, it may not be his most exciting record, but it's an honest piece of work. This is a fold down from the stereo (please check Prof. Stoned comment below and also check his page http://profstoned.blogspot.se/ there's a lot of goodies there) and track quality shifts - too much reverb for my taste at a few. Released in US 1968 in stereo only (LONDON PS534) (If someone knows about a first press US mono issue of this - tell!). (MÄH*)

  1. Sorry to say, this is a straight fold from the stereo. There are no differences in balance (when comparing the stereo folded) and the mono has the same volume dip on Cancelling Out (about 2 dB's softer than the rest). Still the mono is quite nice to have because the stereomix is very fold friendly (all elements mixed to the hard left and right, nothing in the centre).

    1. Thanks mate. As You can see in my post I wasn't totally pleased with this mono. The tracks shifts too much in quality and if it'd been a dedicated mix it would have been more even as recorded. Now I know - there's always an explanation :)
