LONDON BEATS XL0278 (-65) MONO POLAND

Polish only mid-sixties issue. This is how the common tale goes - UK group that couldn't get any domestic label to sign them, but through contacts got a contract with the East-European communist Pronit label. All members unknown, but it has been claimed "Mickie Tucker" here is the Mick Tucker who later became famous with "Sweet". However the true story seems to be somewhat different - please check the comment from member Pete Carney below. In any case it's a very charming piece of vinyl. 18 tracks with covers like "Kansas City", "She Said Yeah" and "Green Onions" presented very kind and softly, almost like a dance band, but not unlike many other early UK R&B groups. Sounds like recorded live in the studio with 2-track and the audio is surprisingly good. A few tracks have a female voice - Linda Fortune - the rest male. It's moore soothing than rebellious, but all together a nice one. Issued on very thick vinyl with thin structured cover. (BÅC*)(FÄV*)(ÖGÄ*)(BRBÄ*)

  1. Hi,
Just to put you up to speed "The London Beats" were put together by an English music agency to send over to Poland a pop group with a girl singer. We were never a band at this stage and only met at the time of rehersals, the rest is history ( although incorect)
    regards,

    1. Cheers Pete!

Lovely to get information directly from the source. Although legends can be attractive the truth is even better. Always liked the record - good soft pop with fine audio. I imagine you were all rather experienced at the time.
