Columbia had high hopes for this group. They were regarded one of best bands on the San Fransisco scene and by many as the future of American rock. The label decided to release ten of the albums thirteen tracks on five single records. I wonder if that's the reason this mono comes through as as promo mix. The stereo isn't 100% compatible so it wouldn't have fit AM stations, but this sounds great so there were probably adjustments made for mono radio. And it does sound better than the stereo - stronger, pushier and more dynamic. (US: Columbia CL 2698) First UK had structured label as shown here and laminated cover.
