FILL YOUR HEAD WITH ROCK SPR 39/40 (-70) UK

A very valuable compilation from back then I'm still carrying with me. It was the third in a sampler serie lauched by UK CBS in the late sixties and early seventies. A two-LP set offering the best contemporary US and UK artists the label had, with high quality all through and top sound, sold to budget prize. I remember when it first hit the shops in the small northern industrial town where I grew up. It was like a bomb gone off. We all bought it, played it and discussed it for a long time. Some of the artists were known to us even if we couldn't afford the records, but others novel. Now we could own tracks by old favorites, but also get new aquaintances and enjoy the latest pop and rock. A few of the groups on here I heard for the first time, but continued to follow - Santana, Spirit, Flock, Moondog - all came to me through this and opened my eyes to exciting contremporary American music. Today it's valuable in another way. Many of the artists or constellations appearing are long gone and the records can be very hard to find. This is still affordable and provides some of their best tracks. Originally pressed in UK for the domestic market, a few European countries had own issues, but most of the export was made in Holland. Not pressed in US - Columbia had other compilations for America. First UK had matt E J Day f/o cover with rec. no. above logo, eight page booklet and thick unflexible vinyl. (SÄM*)

  1. Hi there,
for nostalgic reasons (which you explained quite rightly) I made MP3s of my copy of this album. So, if anybody is interested to listen to this once again after all these years, go here for more info: http://schnickschnackmixmax.blogspot.de/2012/04/fill-your-head-with-rock.html

    Cheers and all the best!

    1. Thank You kindly! There's so much good music here and some very rare tracks so it's well worth a tour.

  2. Many copies still around here -as you pointed out- but the majority of them well-used.

  3. Yes the only tricky one is UK with the book...even if it's just further ads for the LP:s involved. You can get a regular decent one for $10, still I was happy to pay almost three times more for this mint.
