GLADYS KNIGHT & THE PIPS/NITTY GRITTY TML 11135 (-70) UK MONO

One of the most known and longest lasting US soul acts with a number of high charting singles and albums in US and UK. They had an extensive history, but it's too much to handle here - if you wanna know more about the group check this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gladys_Knight_%26_the_Pips . In my opinion it's one of their best albums. Still in the sixties soul tradition but also a foregoer, adding elements of psych and a strong rythmic appearance pointing to later seventies power soul/funk. It's a great collection of cuts, written by some of the best from the Motown staff. I got too many favorites on this, but to name a few - "Cloud Nine", "Aint No Sun Since You've Been Gone" and "(I Know) I'm Losing You". The cover doesn't say who produced, but a good guess is Norman Whitfield who also was behind most of the songs. First US -69 stock copies on Motowns "Soul" label was stereo only (SS 713) and I haven't been able to find any trace of a US mono promo. But this UK mono sounds perfect. With every single track in balance, big base and good separation it has every sign of a separate mix. I have a hard time believing a compatible could be that bloody perfect. So either there is an undetected US promo somewhere, or this was mixed especially for England. For my other postings on late UK Tamla Motown monos either write "TML" in the box top left or use this http://monolover.blogspot.se/search?q=tml. First UK with label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover. (TÖMÖ*)(UKÖ*)(YMÖ*)(FÄV*)
