THE MARVELETTES RECORDED LIVE ON STAGE TM 243 (-63) US MONO

1961 the group became the first Motown act to reach #1 on Billboard with the debute single "Please Mr. Postman". They never got that high again, but had twentytwo more '45:s on hot 100 in the sixties, where of five top 20. The albums didn't do that well. First one to chart was a 1966 Greatest Hits at #84 and the second and last "Pink Album" the year after at #129. This 1963 live is kind of an early greatest hits with six former A-sides and one B-side. I get the impression of a straight on mono recording, nothing added or changed. It's dynamic and natural with constant audience noise allowing you to feel the atmosphere, but not always sharp or focused. A little like watching a fifty year old black and white snap shot of a club act. Not issued in UK, but the Stateside live compilation "On Stage" (SL 10065) used three tracks from it. Don't know wich US press this copy is, but I guess rather early with label as shown here, thick vinyl and thick laminated cover. (TÖMÖ*)(FÄV*)(LYBÖ*)(FÖGÄ*) (YZÄ*) (ÖXCÅ*)
