SOUNDS INCORPORATED 33SX 1659 (-64) UK MONO

One of the most prominent British sixties instrumental groups. Started their carreer 1961 as backing band for US artists touring England, including Gene Vincent, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Sam Cooke. While playing in Hamburg they got close with The Beatles and were signed by Brian Epstein. Two first Columbia singles did OK in UK and the third - "William Tell" - taken from this album, also reached #2 in Australia. As a steady opening act for The Beatles on their world tour they got a lot of exposure wich led to new assignments but didn't help further sales. Apart from a second album for George Martins "Studio Two" 1966 they didn't release much after 1965 and started to disintegrate at the end of the decade. Their most heard recording is undoubtely the (uncredited) brass backing on the Sgt. Pepper track "Good Morning Good Morning". This debute LP can only be described as party music. All tracks but two are instrumental with a very competent brass section to a fast up-tempo rock background. The tunes urges and drives you to move and there's so much good humor involved it's hard to hold back a smile. At least that's the way it was back then and how I captured it as young teen. I know many youngens today regard records like this as way past expiration date. May be, but in that case I'm way past too, cause it still makes me smile. Don't know of any other original issues, but the 1993 CD "Sounds Incorporated" (See For Miles SEECD 371) has the best of their EMI cuts. Early UK had label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover. (FÖGÄ*)
