HARVESTER/HEMÅT DRS 3701 (-69) SWEDEN

Swedish hard core garage psych. Their first recording, as International Harvester - was so odd no domestic companies wanted anything to do with it, but finally got release on the Finnish "Love Records" label 1968 named "Sov Gott Rose-Marie" (see separate post). That was a mix of live and studio recordings, blending ballads, folk and messy rock'n' roll with assorted whims. This second album (eng. "Homewards") sounds a little different. Recorded one night 1969 at "Kafé Marx", a joint owned by Swedish Communist Party, it consists mainly of long improvised pieces built around stationary themes, repetitive and almost hypnotic. There's hardly any distinguishable lyrics, the vocals are mostly hummings, chants and shouts. Backing is guitar/bass/drum, partially supported by hurdy gurdy and assorted saxes, cello and flute. Two of the tracks reminds of Swedish folk tunes, the rest is preliminary psych. The audio is as you could expect from a café recording, bad but bearable. Issued on "Decibel Records", shortlived Swedish independent label with only two releases - this and the first from the groups next incarnation "Träd, Gräs och Stenar". First press had labels as shown here in a thin thin fully laminated cover. (SCÄ*)(ÖGÄ*)(ÄZC*)(CCÖ*)(NÅY*)
