AFFECTIONATELY MELANIE 203028 (-69) UK

Melanie (born Melanie Anne Safka-Schekeryk in New York 1947, died 2024 in Nashville) was widely known in the seventies with a number of high charters and acclaimed performances at festivals, but today almost forgotten by the big audience. After a few years performing in Greenwich Village folk clubs she got a contract and recorded her debute album "Born To Be" 1968. It didn't do much in US for a start but she soon got a following in France and some other European countries. After a successful performance at Woodstock the debute was re-issued as "My First Album" and surfaced at about the same time as this follow-up. Although both were good LP:s non of them sold very well, partly due to their coincidental release. I've always liked her voice - very personal and sometimes just out there, bursting without restraint. This contains the Woodstock hit "Beautiful People" together with a collection of self-written ballads and rockers. Recorded in London and produced by her husband Peter Schekeryk. The audio on the UK press is perfect, so close and clear you can almost feel her. First US on Buddha (BDS 5041) with different wrapping. Premiere UK issue with label as shown here and thin glossy cover. (FÄV*)(SYSÖ*)
