FRIPP & ENO/EVENING STAR HELP 22 (-75) UK
A kind of follow-up to the 1973 "No Pussyfooting" album. While that was interesting as a groundbreaker and novelty in popular music this sounds a lot more elaborated and mature. On NP you get the impression the outcome very much was a product of testing new equipment and possibilities thus letting the machines be in charge. Here they have mastered the equipment and it's merely a tool for realizing ideas. The long side two track "An Index Of Metals" reminds of NP, but comes through a lot more dynamic. Side one has four short pieces, simple yet expressive. I hear this more as a musical web than regular songs so it's hard to pick a favorite, but "Evensong" remains in my mind long after listening. 1975 issues in France and Germany. Early US -76 on Antilles (AN-7018). First UK on Islands budget HELP label with thin matt cover and black inner. (ÄNÖ*)(KYK*) (HÄLX*) (FÖF*)
