THE ROLLING STONES/GIMMIE SHELTER SKL 5101 (-71) UK

The second in a line of compilation albums UK Decca released after Stones leaving the label, all unauthorized by the group. They have in common more or less rare studio recordings, takes or mixes, some non-LP or unreleased in UK. This is a little different. Side one has an average collection of tracks popular at the time, all in true stereo. Side two are live tracks taken from the same tapes as US 1966 "Got Live If You Want It" album (London LL 3493/PS 493). Six of the songs from those sessions had alredy been issued on a UK EP with the same name (Decca DFE 8620). This was the first UK release of the remaining six (not counting the 1968 export press of the US LP - "Have You Seen Your Mother Live" Decca LK/SKL 4838). As far as I can hear it's true stereo, probably using the US mix. True or not it's rather bad and to my ears the US mono original sounds better. As they didn't have material for a full LP, two previously unreleased studio recordings were added as fillers - "I've Been Loving You Too Long" and "Fortune Teller"- with audience overdubs. Both those are on here. This is not a record I listen a lot to. All tracks can be found on earlier issues with better audio. But it is The Rolling Stones and even if the group didn't like it I still count it as legit and a keeper. First press on thick unflexible vinyl with label as shown here and laminated cover with "blue block" inner. (RÅ*)(LYBÖ*)
