CARTER FAMILY, UNCLE DAVE MACON, GID TANNER & RILEY PUCKETT/AUTHENTIC COUNTRY MUSIC CDN 5111 (-63) UK MONO
UK compilation containing thirties and early forties recordings from three primal country acts. Not a fan of the genre in large and know very little about it, but this speaks to me in a peculiar way. American folk music in its cleanest form, before it blended with the black blues to rockabilly and later rock'n'roll (for more details on artists and recordings click and check back cover notes below). You can hear traces from it in Sun recordings by Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash as well as in its polished form by later artists like Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton. The Carter Family cuts appears somewhat prepared, but the ones from Uncle Dave Macon and Gid Tanner & Riley Puckett sounds totally unrehersed and as I imagine what you'd get in a barn dance or bush party drowned in moonshine. To me a message from another time and place with an audio and autenticity that almost takes me there. I get a big chunk of thirties America delivered to my listening chair and history comes alive. Don't know of any other issues. This came with label as shown here and laminated cover. (SÄM*)
