FLEETWOOD MAC/THE PIOUS BIRD OF GOOD OMEN S7-63215 (-69) UK

Another compilation I couldn't do without. Released as the group was moving on from CBS to Reprise in UK - containing eight previous '45 tracks, two from the "Mr. Wonderful" LP and two Eddie Boyd numbers where he's backed by the group. I'm not a big fan of their later blockbuster years. To me the real Fleetwood Mac ended with Peter Green's departure and nothing after that grabs or moves. All tracks here sounds like true stereo and the audio is very good - strong and clear with a separation allowing the emotions to sip through. Even if all numbers on it has showed up on LP or CD collections through the years I still think this is essential to any Fleetwood Mac collection - it's the first, the true original. There's also supposed to be a UK mono issue of this album, but I've never seen it. The contemporary American "English Rose" compilation (Epic BN 26446) had some single cuts in common, but six tracks was from "Mr Wonderful" - unissued in US - and two new ones that later would show up on UK "Then Play On" album. 1:st press had label as shown here, laminated cover with mono number and stereo sticker. 1. Some random facts; UK mono of this does not exist, despite stereo sticker on some copies. LFS is fake stereo. The single sides were remixed to stereo in 1969 especially for this collection, and those are the mixes that are commonly heard on every LP & CD since. The mono mixes only appear on the original BH 7"'s. NYLSB was reissued as a single with this album, and contains a folddown of the stereo mix found herein.

    1. Thanks for the facts Prof. You may be right there's no monos. But on the other hand - I was told for forty years the SRC Milestones UK mono didn't exist, but found a copy a few years ago. Pretty unique, but if You check my post You see it's there. Great LP btw.
