R. DEAN TAYLOR/INDIANA WANTS ME STML 11185 (-71) UK

Canadian singer, songwriter and producer. Very creative during the sixties and seventies - releasing over twenty '45:s under his own name, writing hits for Motown artists as Supremes, Temptations and Four Tops and producing many more. Big seller in Canada, but never got a real breakthrough in America. "Indiana Wants Me" peaked at #5 on Billboard and a few more singels landed between #60 and #100 on the list, but there was no hype and today he is almost unknown among music lovers and record collectors. Did better in England with two top 3:s and "Gotta See Jane" reaching #17 1968 and the re-issue #41 1974. This was his first original LP. To me "Gotta See Jane" is a pop psych classic, unique in its own way. The rest of the tracks on the album are more mellow pop, melodic and perfectly produced. Not provocative in any way, nice listening all through. Most are self-penned with a comfortable feeling. I could be without a few of the covers, but enjoy his "Two Of Us" version - great song anyway it's made. Album label says stereo, but some of the tracks are mono and the rest don't provide much stereo at all. Probably mixed for radio play all together. Originally released in US 1970 as "I Think Therefore I Am" (Rare Earth RS522) where it barely made top 200. UK issue a year later with same tracking order, but totally different wrapping. 1st press with label as shown here and structured flip/back cover. (TÖMÖ*)(MÖRS*)(SYSÖ*)
