PAUL AND LINDA MCCARTNEY/RAM MONO BRAZIL BTX 1015 VS. UK STEREO PAS 10003

After I've examined the issue more thuroughly I'm doing a total re-write. Always thought this mono was odd. It has top audio - not the separate US mono mix, still a little bit different from what you get pushing the mono button on the original stereo. At the time it was recorded there was often efforts to make stereos compatible since many radio channels still broacasted in mono and those were important to sales. However due to some tape mistake this got an azimuth error (for more on the concept azimuth in recordings check http://www.cedaraudio.com/intro/az_intro.html ) , making the treble of the fold down sound squeeky at parts, which is the reason they decided to make a separate US mono mix for radio play. That mono do not differ much from the stereo - "Too Many People" has a five seconds longer fade out, guitar intro on "Smile Away" slightly different reverb and a few other minor things. This Brazil issue is from the original UK stereo, but have less squeeky treble and sounds more pushy at parts than a regular reduction would. There are mainly two reasons - limiters or EQ was used at a few places, quite a lot at "Eat At Home" - one of the tracks suffering most from the azimuth error - making it sound more damp than the rest. Also the speed is a tiny bit faster - all songs differ in timing around 1,5 seconds per minute ( for exemple "Too Many People" clocking in at 4.04 compared to the US stereo 4.10 and mono promo 4.15). The speed difference isn't big enough to make it noticeable in details, but could affect the listening as a whole making it more firm and pushy. I guess UK and US stereos is what most people prefer, but at least to my ears this has enough to make it special and a keeper. Early press with label as shown here, thick unflexible vinyl, laminated fold out cover and glossy black inner sleeve. (BÄ*)(SÖMI*) (CPYC*) (ÄPLÄ*)(MÅW*)(MÄCC*)
