STAN FREBERG/A CHILD'S GARDEN OF FREBERG T 777 (-57) UK

Humor is a perishable tied to situations and feelings of its time. Yet as we carry feelings and situations with us through life it also becomes personal. I grew up with Marx Brothers on matinée and still laugh my ass off when I see one of their movies while many younger persons just find them silly cause they can't answer to the context. So I understand today pastiches of songs popular over fifty years ago has a limited audience. But for us who grew up with that music it's still a lot of fun. Freberg was an American jack-of-all-trades comedian releasing a bunch of parody singles from the early fifties and on. This is a compilation of some popular ones. Parts of his discernments are somewhat dated, but a few still holds on and sounds pretty modern. The echo drenched "Heartbreak Hotel", "The Great Pretender" with the groovy jazz pianist who refuses to pretend and the Johnnie Ray parody "Try" - always makes me smile. Premiere US on Capitol with same number. Very first UK had label as shown here and fully laminated cover with crescent flips. (MÖRS*)(SYSÖ*)
