BLOND SRF 67607 (-69) US

The last album release from the Swedish combo Tages. Due to turbulence in the group singer Tommy Blom left 1968. The remaining members decided to make a last attempt for international breakthrough, moved from Parlophone to Fontana and changed the name to Blond. This album, produced by their old studio mate Anders Henriksson, was recorded in England and released in both US and a number of European countries. However at the end of the sessions two more members left. They were replaced, but the original core was gone, the hype vanished and low sales led to the group split shortly after. What makes it somewhat different from the late Tages releases is the production and structure. It's still Brit-pop with a melodic mix of up-tempo rock and smooth ballads, sometimes with elements of Swedish folk music. There's some good psych guitars and interesting tempo changes. The production of their earlier stuff was clear and overt and hit you at once, this is more complicated and don't give an instant connection but opens up after a few listens. Favorite track "Six White Horses". In most other countries the album was called "The Lilac Years" as the '45 release, but in America it was simply named "Blond". First US with label as shown here and a matt f/o cover with lyrics inside. European issues had different cover. Also on CD with bonus tracks 2003 (Universal - 183352) (SCÄ*) (YZÄ*)(DÄXÖ*)
