THIRD WORLD/AIYE-KETA HELP 14 (-73) UK

I've had copies of this to and from since mid-seventies. Always thought it was great, but it's been a lonely road. It has become rather rare, but not often mentioned or sought after by collectors. This is not the Jamaican raggae band, issuing eight albums on Island 1975-79, but a one-off for a trio consisting of Steve Winwood, Remi Kabaka and Abdul Lasisi Amao. Winwood was on a sick leave from Traffic at the time, Kabaka his band mate from Ginger Bakers Air Force and Amao one of the original Osibisa members. The album has been placed in the "Afro-pop" genre, but it's a lot more than that. There are elements reminding of early Santana or Osibisa, but wilder and more free form. Apart from different kinds of rythm instruments there are saxes, flutes, guitars and moog. The lyrics seems to be African, mostly as chants. Style is more jazzy prog than rock or pop and it's clear the guys are enjoying themselves, doing what they want and like. There's a wonderful free spirit live feeling over the whole thing, unrestrained with a positive atmosphere. If you're into that kind of music it's well worth looking for. First US release on Antilles (AN 7005) with different cover. Premiere UK on Islands budget HELP-serie with label as shown here and black inner sleeve.(TXÄW*) (HÄLX*)
