DON ELLIS/AUTUMN M 63503 (-69) UK MONO

Ellis was a US jazz trumpeter and composer. Worked with many great profiles - Glenn Miller, Manyard Ferguson, Charlie Mingus and Leonard Bernstein just to name a few - and one time also shared stage with Greatful Dead and Janis Joplin at Fillmore West. Don Ellis Orchestra had a traditional big band form, but with a more experimenting approach - incorporating elements of Indian tunes and Eastern European folk music, also using complex rythms and meters. Music on here can be described as experimental jazz, but also as orchestral psych - intriguing most of the time and never boring. Side one are studio recordings, side two live at Stanford university August 1968. Produced by Al Kooper. Don't have a clue what kind of mix this mono is. Probably a fold down, but it sounds just right, so maybe the stereo was perfectly compatible. First UK with label as shown here and laminated cover. (YMÖ*)(LYBÖ*) (CLÄZ*)
