Regarded by many as one of the great live albums of the sixties, most tracks are actually studio recordings - "Ball and Chain" being the only true live take. Nevertheless, the raw utamed live feeling is what makes this so good and the mono is great in capturing the presence of the act. Don't know if this UK issue uses the original US mono tapes (COLUMBIA KCL-2900), or if it's a fold made in UK. Will check that later. In any case it sounds very good and is worth having any way. The album topped Billbord 200 and produced two hit singles "Summertime" and "Piece Of My Heart". A few months later Joplin left Big Brother and the Holding Company and started Kozmic Blues Band.
