IRON BUTTERFLY/HEAVY 33-227 (-68) US MONO
The group name and album title makes you think about early hard rock - and it is in a way. Songs are rather mainstream and lyrics simple. What makes it hard and heavy is more the harsh approach to the material and the production (made by Charles Greene and Brian Stone). Maybe not fully fledged, but certainly a taste of what's to come. Most intriguing is the perfect mono sound. It's big, clear, distinct and right on the spot. Listening to this no one would ever long for a stereo version. Not originally released in UK and the much later issue there was stereo only. (YZÄ*) (ÖXCÅ*) (GÄPPY*)
