After different names and line-ups this group finally settled as "The Status Quo" 1967. 60 chart hits on the UK list is an all time record, but they never had the same success in US. Most know this group through boogie rock and the three chord variations that gave them decades of success. This debute is something completely different - a nice collection of melodic psych numbers and lots of fine innovative guitars. Biggest hit from it was "Pictures of Matchstick Men", also reaching high in US. This is a separate mono mix, nice and clear, but much too loud to my taste. Stereo isn't good either, sounds constructed and rather tame. So it's a choice between two evils I guess. First press with label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover. (PÖY*)(STÄQ*)
