SPENCER DAVIES GROUP/WITH THEIR NEW FACE ON ULP 1192 (-68) UK MONO

After Stevie Winwood left for Traffic and his brother Muff went on to produce -67, Spencer Davies regrouped recruiting Phil Sawyer and Eddy Harding. The soundtrack "Here We Go Round the Mullberry Bush" had contributions both from the newly formed Traffic and the new Spencer Davies setting. The formation had some success with the singles "Mr Second Class" and "Time Seller", both included on the album. This is a move from R&B based songs to pop psych. It wasn't a big seller, did not chart in US and hardly made the UK list. In retrospective it's a nice psych effort, as good as many others at this time. I don't like this mono though. It may be a separate mix, but engraved way to loud to be enjoyable. It's a pity, but the stereo is OK and a better choice. Released in US on United Artists (UAS 6652). First UK with label as shown here and laminated flip/back cover. (TXÄW*)
