THE WHO/SELL OUT 612 002 (-67) UK MONO

The Who's third LP and the first to be released with two separate mixes. It's sort of concept album - the songs are not obviously related, but kept together by fake commercial announcements, mimicking a broadcast for a pirate radio station "Radio London". To my ears a tophole collection of songs, showing on the band's then blossoming creativity. My favorite tracks - the psych epics "I Can See For Miles" and "Armenia City In The Sky" plus the one about the popular girl with a very special skill - "Mary Ann With The Shaky Hand". I've heard the original UK stereo some years ago and at least then thought mono sounded first hand and came out a lot better, but also seen many fans prefer the stereo. Probably has to do with what playing equipments and pressings involved. Trying to find a 1st UK stereo fitting my wallet to do a proper comparison, but it's not that easy. US 1968 release in both mono and stereo(DECCA DL4950/DL74950). Premiere UK had label as shown here and laminated cover, some with psychedelic poster. (WÖH*)(TRÄC*)
